I am a freelance writer, editor, and the author of Bones: Brothers, Horses, Cartels, and the Borderland Dream, a work of narrative nonfiction published by One World/Random House. Bones was named a finalist for a PEN America literary award and called “masterfully recounted" by the New York Times Book Review. Read the prologue here.
My work has appeared in the Washington Post, D Magazine, Deadspin, the Village Voice, and elsewhere, and I've won industry awards for investigative reporting, sportswriting, and other work. I worked most recently as editor-in-chief of the alt-weeklies in Kansas City and Dallas, where stories I edited won national awards for feature writing, long-form news reporting, arts criticism, media criticism, environmental reporting, political commentary, humor writing, and drugs reporting.
I live in the Washington, DC, area with my wife, a nonprofit fundraiser, and family. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
